The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine have launched a scheme that is intended to assist in increasing innovation and diversification in the horticulture industry.

According to Gov.ie, this will be achieved by funding fundamental studies, industrial studies, experimental development and feasibility studies for public good and/or commercial advantage in all aspects of primary horticulture production (edible and amenity) and the valorisation of waste generated as a result of primary production including spent mushroom substrate.

The 2024 Scheme for Investment Aid for Innovation and Diversification in Horticulture (Feasibility / Desk Studies) is aimed at small and medium sized enterprises engaging in primary horticulture production that would like to innovate and diversify in the horticulture industry but need to carry out specific studies (feasibility/desk based) before doing so.

Applications must be made by the primary producer but can be in partnership with a Research Institution or another entity. Supporting evidence may be requested to verify that the enterprise is a small or medium sized enterprise.

The scheme is open to micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) active in primary horticulture production.
