Nursery professionals, growers, and horticultural researchers are invited to a practical and informative Nursery Stock Workshop at Kelly’s Nursery in Mullingar on October 22nd from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.

The workshop will offer attendees a hands-on look at innovative solutions for sustainable plant production, with a focus on composted green waste as an element of growing media.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the nursery stock sector to share knowledge on what is becoming a critical topic: finding sustainable, high-quality alternatives for growing media,” Dónall Flanagan, Teagasc Nursery stock advisor, said.

The core of the event is a live, hands-on demonstration of composting equipment at Kelly’s Nursery, where they have begun to explore their own growing media production to include composted green waste.

Attendees will have a unique opportunity to see the innovations the Kelly’s Nursery team has developed on-site.

Key sessions will include:

  • Growing Media Innovation: hear first-hand grower experiences with successfully integrating composted green waste into plant production
  • Teagasc Research: receive the latest updates on growing media trials from Teagasc researchers, including demonstrations of the equipment and skills necessary for effective media monitoring
  • Sector Updates: gain critical insights from experts delivering key sector updates from the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) and the Minor Use Working Group

Refreshments will be served on arrival, and a light lunch will follow the conclusion of the workshop.
