Bord Bia offers Horticulture workshops on UK Trade Regulations
The new workshops will guide Irish horticulture businesses through upcoming UK Customs and Trade regulations, with sessions focused on Christmas Trees and nursery stock to ensure compliance and smooth trading
20 August 2024
Bord Bia, the Irish food board, has announced a series of professional workshops for food, drink and horticulture businesses centred on UK Customs and Trade.
In association with PerformanSC, the workshops, which will be held at several locations in Ireland, will provide insights for exporters into customs, trade and product compliance requirements that are essential for trading with the UK market, with two workshops dedicated to the horticulture sector.
From 31 October this year, food, drink and horticulture exporters in Ireland will be required to comply with additional trade requirements under the UK Border Target Operating model (BTOM), which will involve products of all risk levels requiring checks on entrance to Great Britain, with the exception of specific low-risk plants.
Failure to comply with checks may result in products being rejected at the border to Great Britain.
In advance of these new regulations, Bord Bia is supporting food, drink and horticulture businesses to prepare for the requirements through a series of free workshops over four days from Tuesday, 27 August to Friday, 30 August.
Horticulture businesses will have the opportunity to attend two workshops dedicated to specific information for their sector, including advice on seasonal winter exports such as Christmas Trees and nursery stock trading in line with new regulations.
The workshop preparing businesses ahead of the Christmas Tree season will be held at The Park View Hotel, Wicklow on Thursday, 29 August, while the second session – focussed on nursery – will take place at the Kilashee Hotel in Kildare on Friday, 30 August.
Separately, two general workshops on wider trade and customs requirements will take place on Tuesday, 27 August next at the Anner Hotel, Tipperary and Wednesday, 28 August at the Kilashee Hotel, Kildare.
Attendees will benefit from a detailed overview of customs, tax and trade requirements, compliance requirements, clarity on customer and supplier responsibilities and insights on SPS and other international health protection document procedures.
Bord Bia will also provide updates on the UK BTOM relevant to Irish producers and offer practical advice for businesses to collaborate with the logistics team to efficiently navigate additional requirements.
All workshops will also include Q&A opportunities for attendees and one-to-one consultations on specific trade-related issues.
