One week to go until GLAS 2023
With something for every division of the horticulture trade, the landmark event is not to be missed

The Garden Landscape Amenity and Sportsturf trade show (GLAS) returns next week, Thursday 20 July, at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Co. Dublin.
The trade-only event will feature over 80 of the leading suppliers in the industry. As the trade is ever-changing, exhibitors will showcase everything from new product and plant ranges, to enhanced technologies or never before seen plants.
Speaking to Growtrade.ie about the value of GLAS to members of the industry, Naula Young of Young Nurseries said: “GLAS is an immensely important event for our company and the entire industry,” said. “Attending this event provides us with an excellent opportunity to showcase our products, meet our customers and potentially create new business.”
While the overall marketplace is beneficial from a business standpoint, the social aspect is equally as rewarding.
For Grove Nursery’s Maureen Kinsell, seeing familiar faces at the event is all part of the experience: “We still meet people we used to work with and see what they are doing (today).”
For those involved in the trade, GLAS is a prime opportunity to stay abreast of the latest changes and opportunities in the horticultural and related industries.
Event organiser Paul Byrne from Growtrade.ie commented “During such busy and changing times, it can be difficult to step back from your day job and spend time catching up on the latest developments and staying ahead of the trends. But it’s never been more important. With the support of Bord Bia, GLAS brings everyone from across the garden, landscape, amenity and sportsturf sectors. Businesses that are defined by the dedicated professionals who evolve with the times to meet the demands of this dynamic industry.”
Teaching is an integral aspect tied into GLAS as exhibitors and students alike are exposed to all aspects of the trade.
“GLAS is a unique opportunity for Teagasc to meet the industry that services the landscape and amenity sector,” said John Mulhern of Teagasc. “We are strongly invested in the training needs of the Horticulture amenity sector through the courses that we offer in our two Horticultural Colleges in The National Botanic Gardens Dublin and Kildalton in Kilkenny.”
GLAS 2023 Awards
As always, GLAS 2023 is culminated by a series of awards recognising the top performers of the past year.
The New Product and New Plant Awards highlight the best of each category. Last year, Rene’s Plants’ Buddleia “Butterfly Candy” came out on top in the plant variety. The product sector crowned Reesink Turfcare Ireland for its Farmtrac FT256 electric tractor.
The Supplier of the Year award is a recent addition to the GLAS awards. Supported by Growtrade.ie, the award is voted for by members of the industry. Last year, Young Nurseries was recognised in this category.
The final two awards give recognition to the best stand for horticulture and trade. Last year the Best Trade Stand winner, The Flower Gro Team, featured a pest free multi-compost stand, while Tully nurseries won the Best Horticulture Stand.
