The Teagasc apprenticeship programme offers a two-year paid training leading to a Level 6 QQI Higher Certificate in applied horticulture, with streams in landscaping, nursery, garden and parks management, garden centres, vegetables, and fruit.

Successful apprentices may progress to a Level 7 degree with South East Technological University. The programme involves 80% on-the-job training with employers and 20% off-the-job training with Teagasc, including face-to-face and online learning.

Entry requires applicants to be over 17 years old with a leaving cert or a minimum QQI level 5 in Horticulture, and relevant work experience is considered.

To take on apprentices, employers participating in the apprenticeship scheme must be registered with SOLAS, the overseeing state agency for Irish education and training. SOLAS conducts site visits to assess eligibility for apprenticeship training.
