Exploring landscape practice in action – ILI CPD walking tours 2026
The Irish Landscape Institute CPD walking tours offer a hands-on look at contemporary landscape practice
5 May 2026
The 2026 CPD walking tour series from the Irish Landscape Institute offers a valuable opportunity to step beyond drawings, reports and specifications, and engage directly with the realities of landscape practice on the ground.
Spanning sites in Cork, Dublin and Wexford, this year’s programme brings together a diverse mix of projects, from expansive public parks and evolving urban quarters to the detailed processes of material fabrication, highlighting the breadth of work shaping Ireland’s landscapes today.
ILI CPD Walking Tour of Marina Park and Tramore Valley Park
8th May 2026, 12 noon – 4.30pm
The meeting point for this event will be the Council Chamber of Cork City Council where you will have a short introduction with tea and sandwiches. A private coach will take guests to Marina Park, and then onwards for a tour of Tramore Valley Park.
The ILI is delighted to collaborate with Cork City Council in bringing this opportunity to explore these two parks.
ILI Walking Tour of Seven Mills
28th May 2026, 18:30 – 20:00
The ILI Walking Tour will focus on the delivery of enhanced green placemaking through the Biodiversity Net Gain framework and Sustainable Drainage Systems implementation and we will further discuss the delivery of this green infrastructure at scale and pace.
ILI Walking Tour of Wexford Park and Kent Stainless factory
19th June 2026, time TBC
This is a chance to get a closer look at how Kent Stainless designs and manufactures the kinds of stainless steel elements you regularly specify, with a particular focus on landscape features, like planter edging, bespoke planters, street furniture, and custom detailing.
What to expect on the day
Kent Stainless will walk you through the factory floor and show you how products like planter edging systems, and architectural landscape features are made – from cutting and forming, right through to finishing and quality checks.
There will also be plenty of opportunities to see real examples up close and ask questions along the way.
Why come along?
If you’re involved in shaping outdoor spaces, this visit will give you a better feel for what is possible when design meets fabrication. You will get a clearer understanding of how stainless steel can be used creatively in landscape projects; insight into how we help turn design concepts into practical, buildable solutions; a look at the different finishes, profiles, and detailing options available; the opportunity to chat through ideas, details, or challenges you’ve come across in your own projects.
These visits present a cross-section of the discipline, linking vision with delivery, and strategic thinking with technical execution. For practitioners, they offer not just observation, but a deeper understanding of how ideas are tested, adapted and ultimately realised in built form.
