At the end of March, Smiemans Projecten will begin work on a 1,000-metre squared expansion of The Pavilion Garden Centre in Balygarvan, County Cork.

The project will entail modernising the current garden centre by replacing the existing glasshouse which covers an area of approximately 500 metres squared and to extend it by 1,000 metres squared.

A new modernised glass construction will be realised on the site of the old greenhouse.

To get the maximum amount of light, Smiemans Projecten opted for a Venlo greenhouse with tempered glass and a column height of four metres with maximum ventilation.

The steel construction of the greenhouse is designed in such a way that there is a stanchion every 12 metres, creating a flexible space for the centre.

The existing building will be surrounded by the new building, resulting in an easy customer journey to the restaurant. The facades have large transparent overhead doors to create an unhindered transition from the greenhouse to the outside sales area.

The current restaurant will also be expanded with a special glass construction, all fully adapted and in line with the current buildings.

The new building had to have the same appearance and height as the existing building, so a reduced roof height model was chosen.

The project is expected to take two-and-a-half months.
