12 September 2019
Selected from hundreds of entries showcased at Glee – which took place from September 10 to 12 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham – the winning products were chosen by an expert panel of judges, representing independent and multiple retailers and international suppliers.
Entries were submitted into eleven key garden retail categories:
- Best Garden Plants, Seeds, and Bulbs.
- Best Growing Media.
- Best Growing Container.
- Best Garden Decoration.
- Best Tools and Machinery.
- Best Landscaping.
- Best Leisure and Entertaining.
- Best Wild Bird and Wildlife Products.
- Best Home, Giftware and Clothing.
- Best Retail and Industry Services.
- Best House Plant and Accessories.
The 2019 judges – Ian Hodgson, of Garden News; Andy Bunker, of Altons Garden Centre; Mel Livingstone, of FronGoch Garden Centre; Jane Lawler, marketing consultant and Garden Centre Association (GCA) inspector; Tom Grinnall, head of Home, Blue Diamond; Josh Winter, of Planters Tamworth; Colin Weatherly-Mein, of Garden Industry Manufacturers’ Association (GIMA)/Greenfingers; Roger Crookes, of Pughs Garden Centres and Ex-GCA inspector; Caroline Linger, of Crocus; and Emma Kelly, of Bents – considered each entry on a challenging range of criteria, including innovation, design, quality, environmental credentials, pricing, and retail potential, resulting in some hot debates and close runners-up in a number of categories.
A shortlist was then decided for each category, with the shortlisted suppliers then invited to join the judges in the “Pitching Den”.
