The annual University College Dublin (UCD) Agriculture, Food Science, and Human Nutrition Careers Day will be held in the UCD Student Centre on the Belfield campus on Tuesday, February 19.

“The careers day represents a key date in the life of a student, particularly, in their final year of studies.”, said Professor Owen Doyle, Head of Horticulture, Landscape, and Sportsturf Management at the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.

Professor Doyle continued: “This event provides an ideal opportunity for the more than 40 companies and organisations, present this year, to meet and recruit the current graduating class from the DN272 Horticulture, Landscape, and Sportsturf programme.

“In an informal exhibition setting the companies get the chance to highlight the career pathways that they can offer to graduates and have initial discussions with prospective employees.

“Many companies use this venue as the first stage in the recruitment process and this is of particular benefit to both the horticulture companies and individual students.

“Also, it allows horticulture students to talk to companies operating outside of their immediate area of interest, hence many food companies and state organisations recruit UCD Horticulture graduates, because of the level of scientific knowledge and critical thinking abilities, into roles not directly related to their primary degree.”
