The Irish Landscape Institute (ILI) has announced that, following a brief break, the Irish Landscape Awards will return in 2015. With registration now open it has been announced that the prize giving takes place in October 2015 and the award -winning schemes will be on exhibition for two weeks at the Irish Architectural Archive, in Merrion Square.

The awards aim to give recognition to exemplary landscape projects across the island of Ireland. This is a key mission for the ILI since its founding nearly 25 years ago. The ILI has been committed to pioneering new approaches to environmental planning, and to raising the overall standards of landscape design in Ireland and recognising exceptional work in the area.

The ILI has announced two new categories for this year. The first is the The Diane Nickels Memorial Award for Landscape Hand Drawing. This award has been launched in honour of Diane Nickels, who passed away seven years ago. Nickels was the first female president of the ILI and was renowned as a highly skilled sketch artist. According to the ILI  “This award is to recognise, promote and celebrate one of the landscape architect’s key skills – the use of drawing, by hand, as a means to communicate, develop and articulate design ideas.” The second new award for 2015 is the Public Choice Award for designed landscapes in Ireland.
