The Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland (RHSI) has recently announced a change in leadership following its annual general meeting.

After many years of dedicated service, Philip Hollwey has stepped down as chair, with Gillian Davidson appointed as his successor.

Philip’s tenure as chair has been marked by some of the most significant chapters in RHSI’s history.

“Philip has given extraordinary leadership through some of the most defining years of the RHSI, and we are deeply grateful for his service,” Peter Harrison, RHSI president, said.

He guided the society through the upheavals of Covid, supported its thriving move into digital outreach, and oversaw the extraordinary gift of Bellefield House and Gardens in Co. Offaly.

Always steering with warmth and eloquence, Philip ensured that RHSI weathered every challenge with optimism and purpose.

Thanks to his leadership, the society stands strong and well positioned for the years ahead.

Taking up the role of chair, Gillian Davidson brings with her a wealth of experience and a long-standing commitment to RHSI.

“With Gillian as chair, we look forward to building on that strong foundation, opening our doors wider, nurturing future generations of gardeners, and strengthening RHSI’s place at the heart of Ireland’s horticultural community,” Harrison said.

Well known to many members, particularly through her work at RHSI Russborough, Gillian joined the Board in October 2021 as Company Secretary and has given countless volunteer hours to the Society.
