Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture open day hailed a success
24 March 2022
More than 180 prospective students attended Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture’s recent open day.
The open day gave members of the public a chance to learn more about Teagasc’s courses, career paths in horticulture, and view its training facilities at the Botanic Gardens and Ashtown.
“Guided tours were provided by staff to view the extensive facilities in both sites,” said John Mulhern, college principal at the Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture at the Botanic Gardens. “Students got to see the beautiful ornamental grounds in the Botanics as well as the horticulture training facilities in the Teagasc campus in Ashtown.”
Over 200 students are currently pursuing courses in horticulture at Teagasc College, from Certificate level 5 up to Degree level 7. All of its programmes blend both theory and practical work. Course material is delivered in a combination of practical instruction and assessment and class-based teaching. All practical work is delivered face to face for instruction and assessment in the National Botanic Gardens and Teagasc Ashtown.
Graduates of the Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture can be found across landscaping, nursery stock, turf care and food production areas.
