Professional growing media manufacturer Klasmann-Deilmann is seeking an account and customer support manager to become the primary commercial and technical contact for its Irish growing customers.

The full-time position, based at Rathowen, Co. Westmeath, combines account management, sales administration and technical support, with the successful candidate also spending time visiting commercial nurseries around the country.

The role is expected to be approximately 80% office-based and 20% customer-facing, with the successful candidate reporting to the managing director/sales director.

Supporting Irish growers

A key element of the position will be developing relationships with commercial growers throughout Ireland.

Responsibilities will include responding to customer enquiries, preparing quotations and managing accounts, alongside overseeing the sales order process from order entry through production, delivery and invoicing.

The successful candidate will also provide first-line technical advice on growing media selection, working with Klasmann-Deilmann’s European technical teams where more complex requirements arise.

The position will also involve supporting product trials and visiting commercial nurseries to review crop performance and assist with trials.

Technical and commercial skills

The company is looking for candidates with a qualification in horticulture, agricultural science or a related discipline, although equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Strong organisational, administrative and communication skills are required, along with good IT proficiency.

Experience in commercial horticulture, nursery production, customer service or CRM/ERP systems would be an advantage.

A full, clean driving licence is also required, reflecting the customer-visit element of the role.

The position also includes responsibility for maintaining CRM and ERP records, supporting sales forecasting and contributing to seasonal business-development projects.

International training and development

The role offers an opportunity to work within an international horticultural business and engage with specialist technical and R&D teams in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

Klasmann-Deilmann says the successful candidate will receive structured technical training in Ireland, as well as in Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, with opportunities for longer-term career progression.

The package includes a competitive salary and annual performance bonus, company vehicle, laptop and mobile phone, together with an employer pension contribution.

Supporting more sustainable production

Klasmann-Deilmann describes itself as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional growing media, supplying commercial growers in more than 100 countries.

The company says its products combine horticultural expertise with ongoing innovation to support growers in producing healthier plants more sustainably.

The Irish position comes at a time when growing media is an increasingly important part of the conversation around sustainable horticultural production, with growers looking to balance crop performance, resource efficiency, environmental considerations and commercial viability.

The combination of technical knowledge and customer relationship management required for the new role reflects that changing environment.

Rather than being solely a sales position, the successful candidate will be expected to understand growers’ production requirements and help connect them with appropriate growing-media solutions and technical expertise.
