Origin Green-tech has strengthened its health and safety expertise after goods-in manager Josh Hebden successfully completed the Nebosh National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

The internationally recognised qualification provides a comprehensive foundation in occupational health and safety management and will support Origin Green-tech’s ongoing efforts to strengthen best practice across the business.

Josh Hebden undertook around 80 hours of classroom learning and 120 hours of self-study, alongside extensive revision and assessment. The qualification included a 24-hour open-book examination and a practical workplace risk assessment.

His interest in health and safety has developed through his role overseeing a busy goods-in environment involving vehicles, forklift trucks, delivery drivers and pedestrians.

“My interest in health and safety has grown since Origin took over, particularly through my role where I oversee a busy environment which involves vehicles, forklift trucks, delivery drivers and pedestrians,” Hebden said.

Having previously completed the IOSH Managing Safely course in 2025, Hebden identified the Nebosh qualification as a development goal during his annual review. With support from Origin’s health and safety team, he went on to complete the course.

“I don’t think I’ve ever done anything as difficult or challenging,” he said. “Passing the qualification has given me a real sense of achievement, but more importantly it has completely changed the way I think about health and safety.”

“It’s taught me to look beyond the obvious, properly understand why things go wrong and take a more considered approach to managing risk,” Hebden added.

Hebden said the qualification had also reinforced the importance of creating a workplace where employees feel able to contribute to health and safety.

The knowledge gained through the qualification will enable Hebden to further identify hazards, assess risks and implement practical controls within the goods-in operation, while also contributing to Origin Green-tech’s wider health and safety strategy.

The achievement forms part of Origin Green-tech’s wider commitment to developing its employees’ skills and knowledge and building a proactive safety culture across the business.
