The Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Andrew Doyle TD recently attended GLAS, Ireland’s national trade only horticultural and amenity landscape event in Citywest Convention Centre.

“GLAS provides the only one-day opportunity for those in the amenity sector to meet all the key producers, buyers, suppliers and service providers. GLAS provides the showcase for Irish nurseries and amenity businesses to interact with trade buyers from Ireland and international markets assisting them to develop and enhance current and new business opportunities” said Minister Doyle. The Minister added, ‘To remain competitive every business must constantly seek to improve efficiency, to reduce costs and to maximise quality and service through the use of the most up to date technology available’.

Bord Bia are again principal sponsors of GLAS and along with Teagasc and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, will have a central presence at the show to provide specialist advice and assistance to all exhibitors and visitors to the show. Over its six-year history GLAS has evolved to become one of the main events in the Irish amenity sector’s calendar. With over a 140 exhibitors this year and with increasing year-on-year visitor numbers, it is clear this show is going from strength to strength.

“My Department continues to provide support to the amenity sector under the Scheme of Investment Aid for the Development of the Commercial Horticulture Sector. Since 2008, €5.6 million in grant aid has been paid to applicants from the Nursery Stock and related Ornamental Sectors”.

“I would like to finally compliment all those involved in planning and organising this year’s show and wish the show’s organisers, exhibitors and attendees every success for the event” concluded Minister Doyle.
