84 parks and gardens across the Republic of Ireland received Green Flag Awards in 2020

The search to uncover which Green Flag Award-winning park is most popular world-wide has begun.

A record-breaking 2,228 parks and green spaces have received Green Flag Awards this year so far. To celebrate these fantastic parks, Green Flag has asked the public to vote for their favourite as part of its People’s Choice Award.

“This year, probably more than ever, we have all come to understand the importance of our precious parks and green spaces and to value those that have been a lifeline for us in difficult times,” said Carl McClean, international development manager for the Green Flag Award. “The People’s Choice Award is your chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now.”

All applicants, judges, volunteers, and members of the public can cast their vote via the Green Flag website before the closing date 25 November.

2021 awards open for applications

The 2021 Green Flag Awards are open for applications.

An Taisce Environmental Education, which runs the Green Flag Award scheme within the Republic of Ireland, said Green Flag Award Sites renewing their Green Flags in 2021 should complete the Green Flag Award Application Fee Acknowledgement Form. Green Flag Community Award applicants need not complete the form, and no application fees apply to this group.

A record number of Irish parks and gardens received Green Flag Awards in 2020. Those looking to renew must update their management plan and submit it with their 2021 application. Any updates should consider the judges feedback and address any new park events, projects, and improvements planned for 2021 and beyond.

Those wishing to apply for Green Flag Award status for the first time should contact Robert Moss, Republic of Ireland Green Flag Award manager, via email at rmoss@eeu.antaisce.org.
